Engineering & Tech Talks

JEEC translates to Electrical and Computer Engineering Conferences and is composed by a group of Instituto Superior Técnico's (IST) students whose main purpose is to organize an event with the intention of closing the gap between the business world and university life. This event happens every year in May at IST for the past 26 years.

I integrated the Web Development team in June of 2024 and since then have been involved in implementing the front end and communication with the back end server for the back office, website, and web application.


My work this year #

This year I created a custom loading animation for the app to make waiting feel intentional and polished (image below on the left), and added some new features to the schedule page (image below on the right) to make it more user-friendly and visually appealing.

The loader appears as a full-screen overlay with a glowing JEEC logo.
It enters softly with a fade, then keeps the user engaged with a subtle pulse and shake.
When the process completes, the icon exits with a dramatic “blow-up” effect that feels satisfying and deliberate.
This animation turns a simple loading state into a small, branded interaction that feels modern and responsive - a nice finishing touch for the user experience.

For the schedule page, I refined the presentation to make event details easier to scan and more polished overall. As well as added a way for users to save the events they want to attend to their own personal calendar, which could be ICallendar or Google Calendar. This feature allows users to easily keep track of the events they are interested and make sure they don't forget about them. It also allows users to share the events with their friends and colleagues, which can help increase attendance and engagement.
